I feel very fortunate to have something I love to do.
I apply all the skills I have gained over the years and am constantly learning from observation, discussion and the internet. The internet brings me fencing skills from all over the world. I absorb them and bring them to your projects to make your fences better and better.
I have put together the best tools and equipment I can find for the particular pounded post fencing needs of Vancouver Island, I stopped counting at about $250k in my current setup, plus a workshop to support it.
I hope I can put all this to use on your project soon.
Sincerely,
Pete Evans
Raised on a cruising sailboat in the Caribbean I gained an early foundation in innovation, repair, logic, lateral thinking and self reliance.
During my education in Electronic & Electrical Engineering, my first real job was in an electronics company, in the production department. I learned efficient repetitive production techniques and how to develop jigs and tools to be more so.
Fifteen years in the IT industry took me to the forefront of the corporate networking wave in London, UK. During the 1990’s, my final six years in IT, I put computer systems into 28 countries of the former eastern bloc. I learned a lot about project management, planning, budgeting, problem solving and using my time most effectively. I made things happen quickly and seamlessly.
A fence is just another type of system to me. With no software upgrades required, how nice!
In 1998 I bought a sailboat in Trinidad, cruised for a couple of years, then single handedly ran a 54’ private yacht for thirteen winters. Running a yacht is mostly about fixing problems in nice places, sailing is the easy part. I still spend January, February and March on my own sailboat in Grenada.
Spending my summers in the Comox Valley, I built a cabin and, in 2008, I bought my first machine for my acreage. This led to an increasing amount of jobs for other people until I realized pounded post fencing was my niche.
Now I live in Comox with my lovely wife, a dog and a cat. I have a 1200 sqf workshop to support my business and come up with new ways to improve my fencing.
I‘m an avid cyclist, on and off road, and have recently managed to get fit enough to trail run. Up in the mountains, running 10-20km with our dog is bliss for me. I also like to kiteboard and, more recently, wing foil. And Wordle!
Embracing my fallibilities, as is my way, know that I am a bit “special”. I get hyper focused on my project and get a bit grumpy at times. That’s why I work on fences; my intense IT career, and other stuff, left lasting damage in the way I handle stress. I’m quick to acknowledge and try my best. I set my bar high and you’ll see that in your finished fence. They bring me great pleasure and pride.
Being open about my struggles with generational depression, medication and coping mechanisms brings me so much more than secrecy.
There is a special niche for each of us, I feel so fortunate to have found mine.
