I really prefer to have more information rather than giving out a rough price per foot. Fence jobs have many tasks that are usually the same regardless of the length of the fence. A quote has to be prepared, materials purchased and delivered. The machine has to be unloaded and loaded, the pounder attachment put on and off. Most fences have at least four corners and a couple of gates. Bracing, terminating the mesh and stretching the wire tight at each of these is time consuming. More posts and more wire mesh for longer runs is less effort, therefore 100-500’ job will more per foot than 1000 or 2000’. I seem to be mostly in the $10-25, per foot, range these days, depending type, length, features and the terrain.
Very rarely do I just pound posts. Unless you’ve got hundreds of posts I’d rather do, or help you do, the whole fence. This spreads out the wear on my machinery, adds more value, and gives me greater job satisfaction.
Material costs have gone up at least 50% since 2020.
I feel like I’m back in Eastern Europe as I change my quoting to include a mention of material pricing rising before I can complete a job.
